Author FAQ
Is The Bone Spindle a series?
Yes! The Bone Spindle is a trilogy! The final book is coming out in February 2024.
Is the main love story in The Bone Spindle f/f?
There are two main characters in The Bone Spindle, a pair of girl treasure hunters. One of them is in an m/f love story and the other is in an f/f love story. But their friendship with each other might just be the most important relationship in the book!
Your bio says you’re Queer & Ace, what does that mean?
I identify as Ace, or asexual, but not as aromantic. That means I do have the desire to be in a romantic relationship, just not a sexual one! I identify as queer because when I do have feelings they’re primarily for women (also I’m married to a woman), but I’ve had crushes on men too… So as far as whether I identify as lesbian or bi or something else entirely—I’m honestly not sure. That’s why I feel most comfortable using the term queer.
What are some of your favorite books?
Wow! This list could easily be a mile long, but I’ll try to keep it to just a few.
Favorite books from when I was a kid: The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce, the Dealing with Dragons series by Patricia C. Wrede, and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien!
Favorite fantasy series: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir, and A Song of Wraiths and Ruin by Roseanne Brown! ❤
Favorite f/f fantasy books: Ash & Huntress by Malinda Lo, Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan, and Cinderella Is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
Also, if you love dragons, rich worldbuilding, having your heart wrenched out, and a slow burn love story, check out FIREBORNE by Rosaria Munda! Trust me, you need this book!!
…and waaaaaaaay too many more books to ever list them all!

Do you have any tips for aspiring authors?
Yes! Just write—and write what you love! It can be such a wonderful, frustrating, daunting, amazing thing to finish a whole book. There’s nothing else quite like it, and I don’t think it’s worth worrying about the specifics of publishing until after!
When you are ready to embark on the rest, though, I highly recommend Jane Friedman’s website for writers. It’s packed with how-tos and all kinds of great information. There’s even a section titled Start Here: How to Get Your Book Published.
How did you get started writing?
I have wanted to be an author forever—really! Here is a picture of my wonderful first grade “books,” along with an author bio where I boldly declare my intention to keep writing for the rest of my life. :)
I’ve always been an avid reader, too, devouring all the books I could get my hands on. In high school, I was not so much a person as a pair of glasses peeking over a big stack of fantasy books. Everything I learned about writing, I learned from the amazing books I read!
Do you really have the best girlfriend (now wife!) in the world?
Yes! I absolutely do! ❤❤❤
I was lucky enough to meet my amazing, wonderful girlfriend in high school. We were in choir together, and the seats were assigned by height, so through sheer luck we ended up folder partners sharing music. (Though it took us many more years to stumble our way together as a couple!)
We are totally over-the-moon, heart-over-heels for each other. She wrote me a novel-length fanfiction on request! I wrote her letters by hand every single day when I studied abroad in Japan (and the combined correspondence is also novel length!) She moved out to live with me in San Francisco, where we shared a room the size of a closet and stayed up all night watching anime and laughing into our pillows. We stuffed all our worldly possessions into a van and drove across the country together. We adopted two cats and spoil them rotten. We’ve been together for over ten years, and I still miss her whenever she’s gone even a single night!
My girlfriend is my first reader, my editor, and only reason I have the courage to put my stories out there!
